A pressure cooking workshop

PGVIS symposium, bangkok, 2025

The 2025 symposium, WONDERLAND: Diversity in Unison, organized by the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music (Bangkok, Thailand), explored the theme of wondering, experimenting, reflecting, and creating through a series of lectures, workshops, showcases, and performances. In addition to giving the keynote speech, I had the opportunity to work with two existing chamber music ensembles, putting theory into practice in a “pressure-cooking” workshop: Finding our inner Alice – an experiment | PGVIS.

During our sessions, we explored various ways of weaving creativity into traditional expectations—not only by experimenting and “just doing,” but also by reflecting on and analyzing the process, thereby developing a broadly applicable creative-performative methodology. For this purpose, an artwork from another discipline - a lied text - served as a source of inspiration and as material to complement the musical repertoire chosen by the students themselves.

By examining the interactive and diverse communicative actions and their effects on both the social and artistic dimensions, we explored the role of the (musical) performer as a creative and flexible identity—one that interprets and cultivates existing material in relation to a specific context, while respecting and practicing conventional values and quality.
